Insurance coverage for eye examinations varies. Many children who are seen and followed in our clinic have medical and/or surgical eye problems which are eligible for coverage by their medical insurance. In these cases, there may be office co-payments and/or deductible levels which must be met before insurance coverage will pay for the medical services provided.
If your child is seen for a routine eye examination, the parent may be responsible for payment of the examination in full at the time of the office visit. We suggest you call your medical insurance company in advance to see if routine eye care will be a covered service. We do not participate with VSP or other similar "Vision Plans". The parent would be responsible for paying our bill for routine care in this circumstance. The parent can, however, submit a receipt that we provide for you to file on your own for possible partial reimbursement.
Many children are referred to our office by their primary care physicians. This does not guarantee that the office visit will be billed as a medical visit. The determination of medical vs. routine care may not be possible until the child has been seen and a diagnosis has been established.
